Zach Miller Named Roan School Teacher of the Year

Dalton Public Schools is proud to recognize Zach Miller as Roan School’s Teacher of the Year. Miller, a dedicated educator who teaches Reading, Science, and Social Studies, has been recognized for his unwavering commitment to his students, innovative teaching methods, and extensive involvement in both his school and community.

Miller's passion for teaching was influenced by his love for interacting with children, a quality he developed from a young age as the second oldest of six siblings. His early experiences as a leader in his church and youth group eventually led him to pursue a career in education.

As Miller recalls, "One of my mentors asked me what I wanted to do with my life, and when I told him I wasn't sure, he pointed out my natural ability to work with younger people. His guidance led me to change my major to education, and from that moment, I knew I was where I was meant to be."

In the classroom, Miller emphasizes a student-centered approach with a growth mindset, believing that all students can learn and succeed. He incorporates humor, stories, and project-based learning to engage students and foster long-term retention.

"When students are engaged and having fun, it releases dopamine and endorphins, which improve memory," said Miller. His teaching philosophy prioritizes relationships with students, creating a safe, positive environment where they feel valued and supported.

Miller’s contributions extend beyond the classroom. He is the driving force behind the District Elementary Soccer Tournament, an event he created to provide students with the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills. The tournament has become a highlight for many students, particularly those who may not have access to other soccer programs.

Miller’s dedication to the community is evident in his role as a Soccer for Success mentor and coordinator, as well as his work with local organizations like City of Refuge, where he coordinates food drives to support families in need.

He is also heavily involved in extracurricular activities at Roan School, serving as the coordinator for the Social Studies Bee and leading the Soccer and Disc Golf Clubs. Miller’s commitment to service extends to his work as the vice chairman of the deacons at Fellowship Bible Church and his leadership of the soccer portion of the Grace Presbyterian Church Sports Camp each summer.

Miller’s impact reaches far beyond his students, and he takes great pride in seeing his former students graduate and go on to achieve success.

"One of the greatest rewards is seeing my students grow into contributing members of society," said Miller. "I am honored to be a part of their journey and hope the lessons I’ve taught will guide them toward success in their futures."

Dalton Public Schools congratulates Zach Miller on this well-deserved recognition as Teacher of the Year at Roan School, and thanks him for his exceptional dedication to education and his community.
