Dalton, GA — Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce that Asa Anderson, a kindergarten student at Brookwood School, has been named the state Kindergarten winner in the Young Georgia Authors writing competition for her piece, ā€œThe Most Magical Trip!ā€

Asa’s writing journey began at the school level, where she was recognized as Brookwood’s kindergarten winner, before advancing as the district Kindergarten winner and later placing first at the Northwest Georgia RESA level. Her work then moved on to the state competition, where she earned top honors for kindergarten students across Georgia.

The Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is designed to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in writing, provide a meaningful context to celebrate student writing success, and recognize achievement in both arts and academics.

The competition is open to students in Georgia public schools in grades K-12 and has engaged Georgia students for more than two decades. It is sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors (GLAS) and the Georgia RESA Network, with support from the Georgia Department of Education.

ā€œWe are incredibly proud of Asa and this outstanding accomplishment,ā€ said Superintendent Dr. Steven Craft. ā€œTo be recognized at the state level as a kindergarten student is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Asa’s creativity, hard work, and love of storytelling.ā€

Dalton Public Schools congratulates Asa, her family, and the Brookwood School community on this exciting recognition. Her achievement highlights the creativity and talent of Dalton students and reflects the district’s continued commitment to celebrating excellence in literacy, academics, and the arts.
